How has your career evolved or changed over time?

My career has evolved by actually going full circle! I joined the business as Richard Colgan’s PA in 2007 – then took on various roles and projects on a part-time basis from 2013-2022. Since April ’22 I am back working a 9-day fortnight as Richard Colgan & Gareth Evans’ EA.

What skills or traits do you believe are essential for success in your career?

Organisation. Organisation. Organisation! Being intuitive and pre-empting any issues before they happen. Thinking autonomously. Detailed planning. 16 years of experience in the business is extremely useful. Genuinely caring about the job you do and wanting to do it as well as possible. Patience & empathy.

Have you overcome any unexpected hurdles in your career? If so, what were they?

Yes! Sitting in board meetings and taking minutes accurately. A huge hurdle that used to leave me nauseous and crippled with anxiety beforehand. Now, it has become just part of the job and I feel confident in my ability and presence.

What motivates you to wake up and go to work every day?

The fact that I am trusted and depended on by Richard Colgan, Gareth Evans and the board, not only to do my job well – but to do it well AND given the flexibility I desperately need in order to cope with my being a working Mum. Very grateful for this.

What have you learned about yourself through your professional experiences?

I have evolved massively over my time at OP and pretty much grown up in the business so there have been a HUGE number of life lessons, personally & professionally. I have learned that I am resilient, tenacious, and a perfectionist, but also that not everything has to be perfect!
